Yoshinori Ohsumi Award for Fundamental Research

Yoshinori Ohsumi Award for Fundamental Research

English name: Yoshinori Ohsumi Award for Fundamental Research

summary

The Yoshinori Ohsumi Award for Fundamental Research provides research funding support to young researchers in basic research fields that require a long-term perspective.

Background of the Yoshinori Ohsumi Memorial Fund and this support

The Yoshinori Ohsumi Memorial Fund was established on the occasion of Professor Emeritus Yoshinori Ohsumi winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with the aim of expanding the base of research fields by fostering excellent human resources who will support the future of Japan, such as study support for students who need financial support to study at TUFS and support for young researchers in basic research fields that require a long-term perspective.
This support was established based on Professor Emeritus Ohsumi’s concern about the fact that the basic physical strength of Japan universities is very low, and his request to create an environment where young people can tackle challenging issues and to support the development of researchers who will lead the next generation.
