Those who wish to use the President’s Discretionary Space are requested to apply according to the procedures posted on the website of the Facilities Management Division.
This page explains the confirmation procedures for those who wish to use the President’s Discretionary Space for research purposes at the Office of Research and Industry-University Collaboration.
About when confirmation is required
If the use of space falls under the category of research use as defined in Article 2, Item 2 of the Regulations Concerning the Use of the President’s Discretionary Space at Tokyo Institute of Technology, the confirmation procedure at the Office of Research and Industry-University Collaboration is required.
<Article 2 (Definitions)>
(ii) Research Use: Use of the President’s Discretionary Space for conducting research projects and administrative work related to said research projects.
In the case of research use, the applicant must obtain confirmation of the research use by the Director of the Office of Research and Industry-University Collaboration.

Submission of the “Application for Use of the President’s Discretionary Space” to the President via the Director of the Campus Management Division (Facilities Management Department) will be deemed as an application for confirmation to the Director of the Office of Research and Industry-University Collaboration.
The confirmation will be made by the Division of Research and Industry Alliances, and the applicant will be notified of the confirmation result via the Facilities Management Department.
<Article 4 (Application for use) >
The head of the department to which the person desiring to use the President’s Discretionary Space belongs (hereinafter referred to as “applicant”) shall, in principle, submit an application for use of the space to the Director of the Office of Research and Industry-University Collaboration (hereinafter referred to as “Office”).
The head of the department, etc. (hereinafter referred to as “Applicant”) who wishes to use the President’s Discretionary Space shall, in principle, apply for the use of the President’s Discretionary Space to the President via the Director of the Campus Management Division using the separately specified Application for Use of the President’s Discretionary Space at least three months prior to the desired start date of use.
<Article 5 (Confirmation of Research Use)>
2. The Director of the Division of Research and Industry-Academia Collaboration shall confirm research use according to the application form for use as stipulated in Article 5, Paragraph 1, and may request an explanation from the applicant if any doubt arises.
Documents required for verification
Documents (contract, business plan, acceptance status sheet, etc.) that can confirm the following items listed in the application form for the use of the President’s Discretionary Space are required for confirmation.
- Expected period of use (duration of the project, etc. in question)
- Amount of direct and indirect expenses
Related rules and regulations, etc.
