WRH Program Faculty Research Abroad provides support to Science Tokyo faculty members to conduct extended joint research stays abroad to promote formation of new international collaborations as well as deepening and expansion of existing collaborations.

Applicant Eligibility

Institute of Science Tokyo faculty members
*Applicant’s employment should be secured for at least 3 years after the research abroad.
*Specially appointed faculty are also eligible if the research abroad can be deemed appropriate in consideration of the duration and conditions of their employment.

Research Abroad Categories

The following categories are offered to support travel periods in FY 2026 and FY 2027:

• 【Haken-1】
  Travel Period: 1 month to less than 3 months
  Destination: University, research institution, etc. outside Japan.
  One destination only.
• 【Haken-2】
  Travel Period: 3 months to 6 months
  Destination(s): University, research institution, etc. outside Japan.
  Multiple destinations possible.

Supported Expenses

Roundtrip airfare, accommodation allowance, standard per diem, visa and other fees
